Dentures can be generally defined as removable false teeth made of two parts:
- a base that sits on the gums and looks like the natural gums and
- the artificial teeth that replace the missing teeth. The base can be made from acrylic/plastic, nylon or metal.
The gaps that are left behind by the missing teeth can cause a number of problems, mostly relating to eating, speaking and appearance. Also, over time, the teeth on either side of the gap may move into the empty space at an angle. In extreme cases, all the teeth are removed and replaced. Dentures are placed over the gum in order to replace missing teeth as well as to restore the functions of chewing and speaking and also to boost confidence by improving the appearance of the person.
Why and when are Dentures important?
Just like a lot of things in life, the greatness of something is never truly appreciated until it’s no more. If you have lost your teeth due to circumstances that are beyond your control, like tooth decay, accident, or gum disease, you clearly understand this. The good news is that you can easily replace them and have a set of new ones that will take their place. Dentures can offer you a way to easily restore you way of life. You will be able to do your day to day functions such as speaking or eating without so much stress. Moreover, your confidence will get a major boost because of your appearance and because of the relaxed, unrestricted, happy smile, as the one you had before.
